Filmmaker, Producer, Critic

Danny Schechter is a television producer and independent filmmaker who also writes and speaks about media issues. He is a co-founder and executive producer of Globalvision, a New York-based television and film production company specializing in information, entertainment and educational programming, and the executive editor of MediaChannel.org, the world's largest online media-issues network. Once a Nieman Fellow in journalism at Harvard University, where he taught in 1969, he has worked as a full time civil-rights worker, an assistant to the mayor of Detroit, and a producer for CNN. In addition, he was the producer of the ABC news magazine "20/20" for eight years, winning two Emmy awards.

Schechter's writing has appeared in leading newspapers and magazines including the Nation, New York Newsday, the Columbia Journalism Review, the Media Studies Journal, and the Village Voice, among others. He is the author of "Falun Gong's Challenge to China," "The More You Watch, The Less You Know," and "News Dissector: Passions, Pieces and Polemics."
