Visual Artist
Jacqueline Tarry brings to the visual arts a background in both Philosophy and Logic, two influences that imbue her conceptual art practice with methodical precision and a yearning for Truth. She received her BA in Philosophy from the State University College at Buffalo, NY in 1986. In 1996 Tarry joined ConjenctionArts, sharing an interest with the organization in forging social awareness through art. In partnership with Bradely McCallum, Tarry has worked with the Institute on the Arts and Civic Dialogue at Harvard University as an artist in residence. She has developed the idea of Performative Sculpture through the works Witness: Perspectives on Police Violence and Silence, which both reflect the complexity of changing social issues, over time and from site to site. The Meta work-process involves collaborations with individuals and organizations, which change and unfurled the work. Her concurrent career as a flight attendant informs the conceptual persona “Oh-Miss!” which is to figure prominently in new project dealing with “emotional currency” and investigating the language of service.
