DJ, Activist
Jason Blackkat is a DJ and activist devoted to building a politically-conscious dance music subculture. In 1995, he co-founded Manhattan's longest running pirate radio station, "Steal This Radio," which became an early rallying point and inspiration for the nascent micro-radio movement. Jason has organized locally and nationally against legislation that restricts dance culture, including New York’s cabaret laws and the RAVE Act. In 1996, he co-founded Blackkat, a collective of artists, musicians, and activists. He has toured and performed with several traveling soundsystems, including Spiral Tribe and Bedlam (both from the UK) and S.P.A.Z. (from San Francisco).
