Amnesty International Firefly Project, a New York City-based collective dedicated to exploring the relationship between activism and the arts, will be hosting a juried exhibition of political art on Saturday and Sunday, January 22-23, 2005. "Image Acts" will be presented as part of AND SO FORTH..., a two-day post-inaugural conference for artists and activists co-sponsored by Theaters Against War, FELT, and Art Is Permitted Everywhere.
Aspara DiQuinzio and Tina Kukielski, assistant curators at the Whitney Museum of American Art and co-curators of the recent "Freedom Salon" exhibition at Deitch Projects, will serve as jurors, selecting artists who demonstrate a serious critical engagement with the ethical and aesthetic concerns of politically-based art. They will also be present at the conference to offer their curatorial perspectives to those whom they have chosen to participate in the event.
Artists interested in submitting their work for review are invited to send a brief artist's statement and two to four JPEG images to Lara at fireflyart@gmail.com no later than December 22, 2004; applicants will be informed of the jury's decision on or before January 15, 2005.
Please note that we will not have the facilities to show video or computer work unless you can provide all your own equipment. Artists should limit their submissions to two or three pieces of reasonable size.
Deadline: December 22, 2004
Exhibition dates: January 22-23, 2005
Exhibition location: OfficeOps, 57 Thames Street, East Williamsburg
